Rapinoe's FIFA Women's World Cup debut was in the year 2011. She was instrumental in leading the U.S. Women's World Cup team to two consecutive wins in the year 2015. In 2018, she was made cocaptain. At the 2021 Olympics at Tokyo Japan postponed until 2021 because of COVID-19 epidemic. Rapinoe scored two goals during the bronze-medal game as the United States defeated Australia by an aggregate four-to-3 score.
